It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas!Christmas has always been a perfect opportunity for a catch up, and with the season fast approaching, it’s time to start planning some exciting meet ups with friends. Where better to soak up the festive spirit than in Dublin City Centre, with twinkling lights and Christmas trees to get you in a merry mood! (And you can also get some last-minute shopping in en route!). Here’s some ideas for where to have your 2017 Christmas catch ups in Dublin.
If you want to feel Luxe and enjoy a movie style Christmas experience, round up the girls and head off to one of Dublin’s luxury hotels for indulgent food and drinks. The high-end hotels guarantee beautiful Christmas decorations and displays to enjoy (and provide the perfect backdrop for a few Xmas insta snaps!).
The Saddle Room restaurant in the Shelbourne is perfect for a festive feast. It is on the pricier side but they do have set menus and lunch menus available. You can also soak in the atmosphere and enjoy people watching over a drink in the bar afterwards or just chill out by the fire.
The Westbury off Grafton Street has two restaurant options taking bookings, the more casual Balfe’s on the Ground Floor and Wilde upstairs depending on your price point.
The Merrion Hotel is mainly associated with Michelin starred Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud but they also serve a very reasonably priced dinner menu in the Cellar Bar, where you can enjoy the old world feel of the house, and maybe even take in a celebrity sighting.
If you’re getting the gang together for a Pre (or post) Christmas dinner or lunch and fancy somewhere more modern with a lively atmosphere, plenty of venues are taking group bookings for their special Christmas packages already.
Drury Buildings, Bow Lane Social and San Lorenzo’s are all great city centre locations with modern food choices, funky music and great cocktail menus that will certainly get you in the mood for a night on the town.
For a New York style experience, try booking Roberta’s in Essex Street or Sophie’s at the Dean Hotel. Both have crowd pleasing pizza options, panoramic views of Dublin at Christmas and late bars with Dj’s where you can get your dance on après dinner!
The Vegetarian Option
With all the Turkey and ham filling festive menus, it’s important to make sure your vegetarian and vegan friends don’t get left out of the Christmas indulgence.
Sova Vegan Butcher off Camden St offers an entirely vegan menu including desserts and is BYOB, which is always welcome during the season of spending. Dada Moroccan restaurant on South William Street and Dada’s Moro restaurant on Camden St offer lots of great vegetarian options and BYOB. Saba on Clarendon St or Baggot Street has an extensive menu with vegetarian, vegan and more carnivorous thai themed options so is an excellent choice if your group has mixed requirements. And we are hearing endless goodness about Veginity!
Drinks and Nibbles
For last minute meet ups, why not grab a cheese and charcuterie board and a glass of wine, or some festive bubbles?
Check out the cellar in Fallon and Byrne on Exchequer Street which is always buzzing, The Cavern Bar on Baggot St (with the bonus option of byob from the extensive off licence on site), The Exchequer Bar in Ranelagh, La Dolce Vita in Cows Lane for an Italian selection, or the newly opened Dollard and Co on the quays.

We hate to break it to you but, yes, it really is time to start booking your Christmas party in Dublin. We all know the best spots book out super quick, so don’t get left in a grotty bar with dry turkey sambos and Cliff Richard on the stereo. Here are some ideas for a seasonal soiree to beat all.

Their Christmas menu options are from €39.50 for lunch and €52.50 for dinner. This hidden gem will impress all and is perfectly located for apres drinks on Baggot Street or Leeson Street.
The Old Spot on Bath Avenue has Michelin recommendations under its belt and brings you a Christmas feast not to be missed. A menu including rose veal Bolognese, stuffed squid, Pat Mcloughlin’s dry-aged ribeye steak and good old beer battered fish and chips (not to mention a superb selection of wine, craft beers and bespoke cocktails) will definitely get mouths watering. Gastropubbing at it’s best.
Suesey Street won taste awards at Taste of Dublin 2017 and this stylish, upmarket bistro with a focus on quality, value and service is perfect if you’re looking to impress at your Christmas Party or client event this year. Suesey Street welcomed in house celebrity, John Healy, to the team in October 2015. If you want to team food with one of the hottest 2017 venues in town, Nolita in South Great Georges Street has the Big Apple written all over it. From the trendy roof terrace to the top-notch Italian cuisine (we’re talking the ultimate pizza party here) cocktails and drinks gallore it is sure to impress.
Keep an eye out also for Opium which is re-opening very soon and rumour has it that it comes complete with a Botanical Garden. This will be one of Dublin’s newest venues and one of the hotspots to have on your list if you want to impress. Robertas and Tomahawks in Temple Bar are also high on the trendy meter for your 2017 Christmas party.
Robertas is more casual, Italian inspired dining in a contemporary space. Tomahawks is an intimate steakhouse with cuts hung out for 28 days to guarantee amazing taste and flavour.
Bring the party to you
Some offices want to keep the party in-house. Forget the tin of Roses. Bash has an extra special sweet treat to order in to your workplace. The Delish Melish S’mores Bar comes stocked with amazing handmade marshmallows. Varieties range from peanut butter and dark chocolate and coffee and Jameson to passion fruit and coconut. (And you thought pink or white was a hard choice to make!) The marshmallows are then toasted and placed between handmade chocolate biscuits. Add in some hot chocolate and you’re sure to melt even the toughest boss’ heart this Christmas.
We also love the idea of transforming your workplace into a vintage tea room. After all, Christmas is the best time to indulge in cake. So why not book Socialbee through Bash who will provide the finest china, tea, scones, sandwiches and cakes and, best of all, they’ll even clean up afterwards. Now that’s some real Christmas magic! If you don’t want to go for a vintage Christmas Theme, Melissa can work with you to create something unique for your office party.
Drink and be merry
Tis the season! For Christmas drinks however, we suggest you shun the 12 pubs option for something with a bit more festive fizz. At the top end of the scale, we suggest a Champagne tasting experience in The Cavern on Baggot St. Following a tutored tasting of some of the world’s finest bottles of bubbly, you will be treated to a feast of farmhouse cheese, cured meats, artisan Dublin breads and a delectable Irish seafood platter. And if the party coffers won’t quite stretch to champagne, The Cavern also offers a wine tasting package complete with a cheese and meat board.
If you’re more of a whiskey office, check out Teeling for their tours and whiskey tastings. Enjoy learning about the whiskey creation process and finish it off tasting some of the finest whiskies around in their atmospheric bars upstairs.

Axe throwing is not as wild and woolly as it sounds. It’s a disciplined activity that demands finesse and focus to do it right. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to embed your axe in a small target with a maximum point scoring bulls eye in the middle.
This is a great team day out as it produces surprises that upset the usual hierarchy. You’ll quickly see that the those scoring high will be the ones you least expect to have a hidden Viking within. This completely changes people’s attitudes towards them. The sport is equally suitable for men and women because it’s not about strength – it’s more about timing, concentration and body movement.
As well as being a physical workout, it’s a great form of stress relief. The Axe Throwing team have found that people, especially men, are more inclined to chat about personal challenges when they’re outside in nature and participating in an activity like this. It’s also a great way to get outside and away from computer screens.
What does the axe throwing session entail? Firstly you’ll get an introduction to axe throwing with Flying Angel Axes, inc safety, self coaching and technique. Then, a few practice throws so everyone gets the hang of it. Next up, competition time! The team will run a competition to see who the top dogs are in your group which will lead to the might Crowning of the Axe Champion and prize giving ceremony.
A private axe throwing session is €30pp for 12 to 24 people and lasts about 90 minutes. It’s in Killruddery House and Gardens in Bray but if you want to arrange another location, don’t be afraid to ask the team.
Feeling like you want even more from your day at Kilruddery? Opt for the Viking fire and lunch in the woods. You’ll cook your own campfire quesadillas for lunch or dinner with wild fruit cordial drinks and tea and coffee. The wood activities include edible deadible wildplants activity, viking fire making in teams, kelly kettle/fire tea race, coffee break/biscuits. Its a chance to absorb the woodland light, sounds and feel the calm. It’s then time to learn how to axe throw (same itinerary as above). The event is €55pp and will last 3 to 4 hours depending on the number of people. It’s for 12 to 24 people.
